Renter Landscape Responsibilities

System - Wednesday, September 26, 2018

If it’s your first time renting a home with landscape responsibilities, it’s important to understand how to take care of them. Aside from HOA rules that dictate which plants are acceptable on your home, there’s also city restrictions on how, when, and how much you water your plants. Not everyone has a green thumb, so I’ve listed some tips below on how to keep your lawn green without spending too much “green” yourself, if you know what I mean.

Tip# 1 Prevent Problems, Don’t Procrastinate

Take 5-10 minutes to scan your lawn for any issues every week. Check to see if your sprinklers are working and if there are any weeds starting to come up. The faster you identify issues, the easier it is to deal with them. Without water, plants will die and then you’ll have to replace them. Given the many HOA restrictions of what plants are or aren’t permitted, this process can be a huge headache, but also preventable.

Weeds on the other hand natural pop up every year. But if you catch them early, you might have a not to see them again until next year. There’s many different types of weed. There are weeds that grow annually, biannually, and indefinitely throughout the year. If it’s the former two, as long as you dig up the soil and root, you shouldn’t see them until 6 more months or a year. Side note: if you don’t have a trowel to dig out the soil, you can use a table knife to accomplish the same thing. See the link below to identify what kind of weeds are growing on your landscape.

Tip# 2 Know your watering schedule

Simply look up when you’re sprinkling system is allowed to water your landscape to avoid fees from the city. Follow the links below according to your city.

Tip# 3 Yelp or search for landscapers

If you don’t have the time and/or can afford hiring a professional landscaping team, then make sure to research your options. Contact multiple companies to get competitive quotes for your landscaping needs since most companies offer free estimates.

Happy landscaping!
